Golf bag
Sculpey for the clubs on round KNS

then card, wire and foam for the nag itself.
Wire base for the fox cub's den
Base paper mache
Paper mache again with toilet paper
The reason for toilet paper is that it absorbes the PVA and begins to break down making it easy to mould, so in mid drying stages I scored the tissue paper making the tree back effect.
Bit clearer to see now its brown, but that technique is very effective.
Then off to Model Zone to get my ...
... grass, bushed, trees, dirt and sand.
Very easy to do, and looks the part !
Then paper grass for the rest of the course, the reason for no foam on the botton is that I want my set to sit on a metal base, as my puppet will be animated with magnets. The paper will allow the magnets to work effectively.
I added a sand pit.
Distant hills are made.
Running out of space, and making a mess in my house with all this fake grass.
My booth for the next 2 weeks, most likely 3 weeks (do not know why I wanted to animate a 4 legged character)
Mid setting up. Just a preview of what the film will look like.
Golfer - Keith Johnson & Fox Cub
Ball and Socket Armature, as always from http://malvern-armatures.co.uk/
Then bulking out with foam.
Wire hands, foam then latex on top.
Same for the ball and socket shoes.
Cling film and masking tape covering the bulked out armature to plan where clothes will be to make templates.
Templates cut out ready for material.
Golfers wear a lot of tartan.
Need to be taken in, gave him a bit too much room at the front. Easy fix, just make it look like he has a zipper !
Belt for these high waisted trousers to make sure they sit snug under those moobs.
under shirt from my old cardigan.
Wool vest.
Socks ! with easy access to ball and socket joint for tightening.
Full clothed, all nicely tucked in too.
Sculpey face.
Then baked and sanded down.
Add colour.
Prepare magnetic sheets for eyes.
More sculpey for his eye brows and tash.
With eyes in place, coloured and detailed he is ready !
Start of his face. KNS, X2 2pence, Epoxy Glue and Milliput.
I bought white fur then thought I'd save on the amount of material and money bye just dying the rest of the fur orange. Went through at least 3 different dyes and methods. But this process is what I went with despite the fur curling. I corrected it by combing and blow drying it straight.
First the white fur, the black is just Pro marker.
Belly piece.
And he's ready for the orange !
Tail unfortunately came off, I must f been a little rough when applying the fur on his tail so the wire inside just snapped off. Should of made it replaceable.
So annoyingly I have to stick it to his bottom using glue and milliput making his tail un-animate-able :(
And here is the cutie, completed with the same eye process as the Golfer. Card for paws and ears and a markered on nose and smile !
Here are my characters,
Keith Johnson & The Fox Cub
(The cub I may give a name once built)
The story goes ...
The short tempered retired boxer, who wants to full fill his last task on his bucket list, which is to achieve a 'Hole In One' and get his name on the wall of fame at Puttenham Golf Club.
Without this already sounding hard enough, there is a playful fox cub that lives on the 18th Hole that gets in his way.
Keith Johnson
67 Years Old
Ex Boxer
The story is inspired by a story I once got told, and as I look up to my grandfather a lot, and this story involves his favourite sport, Golf, I named my character after him.
My characters background however I just had the erg to make a bulky puppet, and struggled to draw anything different. His body shape and age is something I have yet to tackle.
For this large man I sent my drawings to Malvern Armatures that made my puppet to measure and came within a few days ready for me to start bulking him up.
1st draft
All bits and bobs included
The fox cub is curious, playful, hesitant and above all cute. He likes to live in his burrow in a tree just off the 18th hole and collect anything in his path.
He will also be made by Malvern Armatures using their Dog armatures.
Here is a link directly to the Dog Armature page:
I am using the photo from the website as I requested that my armature could be sent dismantled.
These Armatures come with full instructions and are very easy to build with the tools and materials you are provided with.
He was a lot of fun to make my fox cub, and of course my tale is bigger then in the photo above.
I will post more once bulking has begun !!!!
